Before focusing on painting Lysandre Begijn studied sculpture and psychology, and these two fields continue to play a formative role in her art. Her work is better described as wall sculptures or installations than conventional paintings, with the textiles, cords, chains and shaped surfaces lending the works a distinctly physical, tactile quality. Lysandre’s work has equal parts figurative and abstract elements, and she works in a deliberately naïve style to “create an imaginary world that is detached from the everyday.” Lysandre Begijn lives and works in Ghent Belgium.
