Casey Baden was born and raised in Houston, TX. She completed her BFA at New York University, 2014, and her MFA at California Institute of the Arts, 2020. Baden is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily between painting, textiles, and installation. Dichotomies like attraction and repulsion, independence and belonging, individuality and uniformity, natural and synthetic, architectural and decorative, private and public, enliven her practice with dynamic tension. She has been awarded residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Vermont Studio Center, The Reef, AZ West, and PADA Studios. She was a 2021 Hopper Prize finalist and has exhibited works in the US and Europe. In Los Angeles, exhibitions have included the Palm Court Arts Complex, the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, The Wing, 00LA, Other Places Art Fair, and CalArts, with an upcoming exhibition, Connective Threads: Across Materials, Methods & Meanings, at the Palos Verdes Art Center. She will also be in residence at the Plum Lime Artist Residency in collaboration with NYC Crit Club in January 2023.
