NYC CRIT Club / Plum Lime Residency: Finalists Exhibition

January 5 - 25, 2023
  • Loren Erdrich, Self Reflection, 2022
  • JANUARY 5 - 25, 2023
This winter's open call for the NYC Crit Club's Plum LiMe Residency drew over 200 applicants from around the world with a wide range of disciplines, formative backgrounds and aesthetic viewpoints. Selecting 19 artists from such a large pool of talent was, for me, both exhilarating and emotionally draining.  As an artist myself, I understood the personal investment each artist made in creating their work, and given the level of quality I was presented with, it made the decision-making process incredibly challenging. In the end, I believe this show reflects the incredible opportunity the Plum LiMe Residency affords artists and the caliber of artists it attracts. I want to thank Catherine Haggarty for inviting me to jury. It was my honor to select CASEY BADEN AS THE Winter 2023 Plum LiMe Resident, AS WELL AS the runners-up, all of whom ARE FEATURED IN this exhibition. I also wanted to thank EVERY artist who applied and who had the courage to submit their works.       -mepaintsme

    ABOUT THE PLUM LINE RESIDENCY

Offered by the NYC Crit Club, the Plum Lime Residency provides artists with a 550 sq. ft. private studio in Bushwick (Brooklyn, NY) for six-weeks to create a new body of work or continue their work in a focused and ambitious way. The studio space is where all in person events and courses are held during the year for NYC Crit Club. The residency is offered biannually in the winter and summer.

  • ABOUT THE NYC CRIT CLUB

NYC Crit Club, co-founded in 2017 by artists Hilary Doyle and Catherine Haggarty, is a platform to help artists build community and push ideas of what it means to be an artist outside the academic institution. Their goal has always been to include artists of all ages and demographics in the conversation about art, culture and exhibitions. The space of the program has expanded over the years and now offers four semesters a year of courses, virtually and in person, at their Brooklyn studio, offering access to influential working artists as critics, advisors and mentors. For their artists, they also built an international artist in residency program, The Plum Lime Residency, and curate several shows a year. Over the course of nearly 7 years the program has worked with thousands of artists and hired hundreds of critics and faculty. They are proud to offer BIPOC Scholarships and financial aid to artists in need and push the pay rate for faculty who are often underpaid in traditional higher education models. NYC Crit Club is currently directed by artist and curator, Catherine Haggarty.
