Tomàs Morell is a German/Spanish artist currently based in Barcelona, Spain. His work explores ideas related to intimacy and identity. In recent paintings he specifically deals with women’s identity and femininity, using contemporary stereotypical images, interwoven with personal memories and experiences. The invented scenes have a humorous character, at times bordering the grotesque. Alluding to the debate around gender identity, while emphasizing irony in the approach to the human condition, the paintings are testaments to a deep admiration and love for the feminine. Tomàs Morell graduated in Fine Arts from the Kunstakademie, Nürnberg. His work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions throughout Europe, including Castello de Rivara, in Torino, Italy; Rodzłø Gallery and Galerina Steiner in Berlin; Pfaffenhofener Kunstverein in Munich; and Erlanger Kunstverein in Nürnberg, Germany. In Spain, exhibitions include Galeria Maeght, Uxval Gochez Gallery, H2O Gallery, Center for the Arts, Vallgrassa, and the Museum of Orozkco in Bilbao. He is currently preparing a solo exhibition at Artual Gallery, Beirut, Lebanon.
