Native New Yorker Destiny Santana is a fine artist whose cubist, abstract expressionist paintings are firmly rooted in her Afro-Cuban-Dominican-American experience of growing up in her Harlem neighborhood. Destiny was raised in the Yoruba and Santeria spiritual traditions, and when growing up, frequently attended Palo (Holy) ceremonies with her mother. It is here she was first exposed to West African spiritual imagery that once inspired the likes of Picasso. Inspired by the lively streets of New York City, as well as the current events and contemporary culture of her time, Destiny's classic graffiti, cultured paintings and bold, controversial images are a direct reflection of the rich diversity of culture which is the cornerstone of her life.
