Nature is the locus of my life, and my work steals glances at our relationship with the Earth. I studied painting on the Cumberland Plateau, one of the greatest concentrations of biodiversity on our continent, which imbued a respect for the wealth of non-human life. My paintings often use an ironic juxtaposition of natural and artificial elements to find solace in the fact that Nature will long outlast us. I have also recently expanded into painted 3-D objects and furniture, inspired by the folk art of my birthplace, which often uses recycled materials.
