After many years as a graphic designer and illustrator, Linda Meli (Italian and Swiss, born in Switzerland in 1991) found her way to painting. Always drawn to analog and narrative working methods, she loves the freedom and materiality of painting. She currently lives and works between Hamburg and Canada and is regularly part of local and international shows. The self-taught painter creates her works using oil, oil pastel, chalk and acrylic on used tablecloths, canvas and linen and builds her own frames. Her colorful and deeply personal figurative paintings depict human beings and souls, alone and in all their complex interpersonal relationships and stories. They smoke carefree or lean against each other in an intimate pose. Painted in bright colors and a graphically clear visual language, they convey a strangely dreamy, otherworldly mood that encourages viewers to conjure up similar situations from their own past and memories.
