Robert Sherratt [b. England 1970] applies the philosophy of collage to the materials of painting. Robert grew up around paint, his Father was a sign writer. Painted words and images were always part of his home environment. Since graduating from Chelsea College of Arts M.A course in 1998 he has used an archive of material fragments [canvas offcuts and dried paint] to construct images from imagination and memory. He began using disruptive processes to trigger and find images rather than impose/illustrate them, and avoid the stasis of a signature style. Career landmarks Include a solo show at Outpost Gallery Norwich and the group exhibition "Malerei ohne Malerei" [painting without painting] at Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven north Germany. An ongoing dialogue with artist Blaise Drummond culminated last year in their joint show "As The Summer turns to Rust" which toured from Old Jet Suffolk U.K. to Galerie Loevenbruck Paris.
