For over 25 years, I have been making two distinct bodies of work; one, very realistic, small portraits in oil, the other, cartoons.

My favorite cartoon pieces are the “storyboard” ones, about famous artists such as Vincent Van Gogh in “Lust for Life”, or the ones with movie stars playing make believe artists, such as George Sanders in “Picture of Dorian Gray”, or Elizabeth Taylor in “The Sandpiper”.

“The Sandpiper” is my most recent piece form my “Artists in the Movies” series.

“The Sandpiper” Is the Story of “struggling artist” Elizabeth Taylor, who just happens to live in an amazing house on a cliff overlooking the ocean in Big Sur, California. She is a “free-love”Bohemian, a single parent who home schools her teenage son, and does watercolors of Sandpipers on the beach for “grocery money” because her work doesn’t sell, (she can’t get the local gallery to give her a show).

It is a very great, relatable movie. It is also quite beautifully filmed in technicolor, which I hope I have been able to capture in this work.
