Manuel Marsol (Madrid, 1984) has, in just a few years, become an internationally known figure in the picture book world. His work, now translated into nine languages, he has won the prestigious Bologna Children's Book Fair International Illustration Award; the Ragazzi Award at the same fair; the Ibero-American Catalog Award; the Amadora BD (twice) in Portugal; and the Pépite Livre Illustré and Prix Sorcières in France.
With a degree in Advertising and Audiovisual Communication, he worked for three years as an advertising creative with awards in Cannes and San Sebastian, but left to focus on illustration and art. He earned a postgraduate degree in Children's Illustration at EINA in Barcelona, and published his first book, which received the Edelvives Picture Book Award, with Ahab y la Ballena Blanca (2014).
In Spain most of his work has been published by the prestigious independent publisher Fulgencio Pimentel, with titles such as El tiempo del Gigante (2016), Yôkai (2017) or Mvsevm (2019). He has also illustrated novels such as The Metamorphosis by Kafka (Astro Rey 2015), Venus in Furs by Sacher-Masoch (Sexto Piso 2016) and Robinson Crusoe by Defoe (Alma 2022); as well as book covers for Anagrama, Babelia (Newspaper El País), Libros del K.O and Barrett.
He has also given talks, workshops and had exhibitions in places such as Caixaforum (Madrid), Taipei Book Fair (Taiwan), Fotokino (France), BD à Bastia (France), FIL (Guadalajara, Mexico), IAGO (Oaxaca, Mexico), Fundação José Saramago (Lisbon), Tabook (Czech Republic), Nami Island (South Korea), Duo Yun Xuan Museum (Shanghai), Red Itiner (Madrid), Mad is Mad Gallery (Madrid), Biennial of Illustration (Zagreb, Croatia the Almería Western Film Festival, Museo de Bellas Artes (Castellón), Museo della Marineria (Cesenatico, Italy) or Biblioteca Central (Cantabria, Spain). His work also appears in Picturebook Makers (dPICTUS 2022) along with 11 other renowned international picture book authors.
