Sebastian Supanz studied painting and transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where he received his diploma in 2020. His early works were heavily inspired by children‘s drawings. A little later, in 2019, he discovered the material wool in the paint store. The pure and strong colors and the soft and gentle qualities of wool strongly reminded him of childhood and led him to a new series, called the 'Wool Paintings'. These works are stretched on wooden frames. Instead of liquid paint, Sebastian Supanz uses dyed wool, and instead of a brush, a felting needle.
The motif of the knight is recurring in his work and has its origin in a children‘s drawing made by his older brother. The knight has become a formal starting point and offers different meanings, including being a symbol for the process itself. In December 2023, Sebastian Supanz will have his first institutional exhibition at the kunsthaus muerz in Styria, Austria.
